It's true that you need to perform regular STI exams as an active and responsible hobbyist whether you use condom protection or go BBFS raw.
The flowers also need to be screened often for STIs, but how does that get performed and verified?
Unfortunately, not all hobbyists are responsible in this way. I've read posts on other sites about hobbyists who don't care about such Public Health concerns, and they have (knowingly or unknowingly) infected sexual partners.
With all that being said, if you catch something during your experiences as a hobbyist, at least you can take comfort in the fact there is probably a medical treatment or cure available.
